Special Needs Services Q & A

What do special needs services include?

Special needs services at Pediatric Dental Professionals include anything that can tailor dental and orthodontic care more effectively for your child. Every child is unique, and every situation is different. If your child has special needs that prevent them from receiving standard dental and orthodontic care services, the Pediatric Dental Professionals team works with you to devise a solution for their unique needs.

The Pediatric Dental Professionals team believes that all children should get quality dental and orthodontic care, delivered in a compassionate manner. They’ll go the extra mile to make sure all of your child’s needs are met.

What happens if my child needs general anesthesia dentistry?

If your child needs particularly complex dental procedures, or if nitrous oxide or oral sedation simply don’t offer adequate sedation, they might need general anesthesia before their procedure. General anesthesia happens in a hospital setting. The Pediatric Dental Professionals providers provide hospital dentistry when needed, so they can come to your child’s hospital to perform the needed procedures.

A medical doctor who specializes in anesthesia administers your child’s general anesthesia and then monitors them throughout the procedure. Dr. Watts or Dr. Robirds then performs the necessary procedure while your child is asleep. The anesthesiologist supervises your child as they come out of anesthesia to ensure a smooth experience.

What happens if my child has a medical emergency and needs dental care?

If your child has a medical emergency that sends them to the hospital, they might also have dental problems. For example, children who are involved in auto accidents may have knocked-out teeth, jaw damage, or other serious dental problems that require prompt attention in addition to their other nondental injuries.

If your child is in the hospital and needs dental care, simply reach out to the Pediatric Dental Professionals team. Dr. Watts or Dr. Robirds can visit your child in the hospital and take care of their dental needs right there.

Use the online booking tool or call the Pediatric Dental Professionals office to discuss your child’s special needs today. The team looks forward to helping you and your child.
