When you’re planning to straighten your teeth, the one thing you might be dreading is the messy, cold, and awful-feeling impression process that uses putty. Pediatric Dental Professionals in Austin, Texas, has great news for you: the iTero® intraoral scanner is an all-digital scanner that can complete a full-arch teeth scan in as little as 60 seconds. Your orthodontist, Stephen Robirds, DDS, uses the iTero scanner to get an excellent and detailed digital impressions and then map out your Invisalign® treatment plan. Book online or by phone now.

What is the iTero intraoral scanner?

The iTero intraoral scanner is an alternative to old-fashioned impressions of your mouth. In the past, you had to bite down on oozing, messy putty to create accurate molds of your teeth. With iTero, you can skip the goop completely because the impressions process is digital.

At Pediatric Dental Professionals, Dr. Robirds uses the iTero intraoral scanner to evaluate teeth and create Invisalign® teeth straightening treatment plans for both teens and adults.

How does the iTero scanning process work?

You or your teen relax in the chair while your Pediatric Dental Professionals care provider moves the small scanning wand around your mouth. The small scanning unit combines laser and LED light to scan and record 3D images of your teeth and soft tissues. The iTero intraoral scanner captures 6,000 images per second, which means that your whole mouth scan is complete in a matter of minutes.

What happens after my iTero mouth scan?

After your iTero intraoral scan, Dr. Robirds has a 3D model of your mouth. He then uses the sophisticated software to create an Invisalign treatment plan that's specifically for you. You can even see an Invisalign outcome simulator to get an idea of how Invisalign treatment improves your smile.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign is a clear plastic teeth straightening device. The removable Invisalign aligners fit perfectly over the top of your teeth because they’re custom made using your iTero intraoral scan. You have one aligner for each arch (top and bottom), and you generally wear the aligners for 20-22 hours a day.

You change into a new set of aligners every 1-2 weeks, according to your treatment plan. Invisalign gradually moves your teeth using low force, until they’re properly aligned and you have a beautiful new smile. The treatment process usually takes around 12-18 months, but can vary by patient. Dr. Robirds can tell you more about how Invisalign can give you a whole new smile.
