The self-ligating bracket system that we use is new and technically advanced. It can give you the radiant smile you have always wanted more quickly than traditional braces without the need for uncomfortable ties or elastics. Self-ligating means the brackets do not need ligatures (little rubber bands) to hold the arch wire in place. They use a "door" to secure the arch wire to the bracket. This free-sliding technology places less pressure on your teeth as it gently corrects your alignment. These brackets are generally less noticeable than those of the past and can be metal or clear, depending on the patient's preference.
- METAL. Self-ligating metal brackets are generally less noticeable than traditional braces of the past when a metal band with a bracket was placed around each tooth. They are also smaller and have a lower profile than in the past.
- CLEAR. As an alternative to the traditional metal braces, we also offer ceramic or "clear" self-ligating brackets. These brackets are often preferred by our adult patients, as ceramic braces are even less noticeable and discretely blend in with your teeth.
Invisalign is an exciting new technology that straightens your teeth with a series of clear, customized, and comfortable aligners that no one can tell you're wearing. The aligner is a thin piece of medical grade plastic that fits over the teeth like a glove would fit on a hand. Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week- until they have straightened to the final position Dr. Williams or Dr. Robirds have prescribed. You will visit Dr. Williams or Dr. Robirds approximately every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages 12 to 18 months.
